'05 Ultra w/ oil pressure woes!

So my brother calls me up and says his oil light is on. I told him to trailer it over and let's find out. He brings it over in the back of his Dodge and we begin the process. I install an oil pressure gauge, check the oil level(full), and fire it up. Sure enough, zero oil pressure at idle. Well, dang!

Time to pull the cam cover and take a peak. His ride is a 2005 Ultra Classic w/ big bore kit (95ci) and 28,000 miles on it. So up on the table it goes and here's what I have found.

Appears to be a classic cam chain tensioner failure! Time for a fueling upgrade! Good news is I get to practice on his bike!

That was Chem look like the discoloration I had at 50,000 on my own nine I could not feel any difference across the cam lobe's but you could see a change in the color of the metal and they said they were bad which prompted me to have a new fuel pump cam pistons piston rings and a bunch other stuff totaling $3000 thank goodness it was under extended warranty at the time which only cost me about 50 bucks oh in the inner shoe was just going to completely just about ready to hit the little metal insert glad you caught it good luck on the repair

Good eye, Tom! Inner journal on the front cam is definitely not a happy one! Time for a bearing upgrade. Oil pump, cam plate, and more if, the crank checks out! Will continue the story once that's been answered!

First Thing Did with the 05 Dyna after got it was get an SE Upgrade Kit which includes the Fueling Pump as Well as Cam Tensioners, also managed to find some original Torrington Bearings for it and while at it Threw in some Andrews TW21 Cams as Well .. Been Spinning like a Top ever since .. Cam Tensioners really didn't look all that bad at 17,000 Original Miles but knew it was a case of do it now or do it later so got it done .. Got 10,000 Trouble Free Miles on it since that was done ..

. Mine was the cam lobe serfice at the top and maybe at the bottom of the lobe where the lifter ran that's for my discoloration wise I don't think they come that way from the factory at least I hope not but there was just no irregularity feel it was just color.

Ace take a look at "Zipper's Performance" for a well made tensioner. Fueling cam plates and oil pumps are the best on the planet! I put all of this in my 09 and was VERY happy with it all....and my Bobby Woods 555 cams!!!

Will Keep this in mind if the need should ever arise they do look like Great Quality and would fit my 05 Dyna as have done the SE Upgrade to the Cam Tensioners, Which already has the Fueling Pump as well .. But more than likely the SE Cam Tensioners will last longer than I do .. But a good option to know anyway ..
